What Murdered the Sex Industry?

The sex industry, not unlike most industries is going through a HUGE transition and these changes are leaving many folks scratching their heads. I personally don’t think that it’s any one particular issue it’s a myriad of them. I’ll break the few down that I have heard of but I know you’ll have your own.

AI

Artificial intelligence has really gained steam in the last year or so, now men and women both can create their ultimate sex partner and in some cases even animate it to talk to them. This has severely hampered the cam and phone sex industry because why talk to someone who almost is what you’re looking for when you can just create what you want? This is having a devastating effect on the porn industry itself.

Gen Z/Late Millennials

This group of folks have weathered a lot in their short time here. The pandemic alone caused a near epidemic of social anxiety. More and more people have become isolated even after restrictions were lifted. But for Gen Z it goes beyond that. They were, in my opinion, done a disservice by their parents for over coddling. They are the most fearful yet the most ballsy – I know that sounds like an oxy-moron but it’s true. Parents of the no competition we all play for fun bent didn’t prepare their kids for the reality of life. Life IS competition and it left them with no coping skills when the shit hits the fan. They are so socially frightened that to even talk on the phone is too much for many of them. Once again there goes your cam and phone sex industry. Plus they are the primary users of AI at the moment and rightfully so, technology is all they know. But I want to put a caveat here and expand on my ballsy point. This mix of generations is also spearheading the change in corporations. By saying, “we don’t want to work like slaves like our parents did for little to no money,” they are actually going to be the catalyst to raising wages to where they should be instead at the 1989 level they stagnated in. Corporations are already feeling the pinch of no one wanting to work for them anymore for slave wages. So although some may see it as laziness, it’s not, it’s a come to Jesus moment for corps to realize that things are changing and the C-suite had better realize that the days of fat Mack Daddy paychecks are probably coming to a slow, painful end. And this NEEDED to happen.

OnlyFans

Now some of you may think, why OnlyFans they’re a pseudo sex site? Well for those online sex workers who didn’t vacate the platform after they threw us under the bus even they are seeing a dramatic loss in revenue. Why? Because now every D-list actor and actress is flashing their junk for the world to see making huge sums of money leaving unknown sex workers in the dust. Why wouldn’t a guy look at some chick he saw on t.v. growing up as opposed to a random woman? Think about it, you have a foot fetish and some chick you used to see online or on the tube is now selling pics and vids of her feet of course you’re going to go with her and not some rando. So once again, the rich get richer by stepping on us to get where they want to go but they are the first to point fingers. Keep that in mind.

The Economy

Let’s face it we are all either sinking or swimming and most are not only sinking they’re drowning. Some are able to tread water but for how long? So who is going to plunk down money on a video or phone call when you have to pay the rent if you’re lucky enough to have a roof over your head which many are not. So popping over to PornHub for free, if you’re lucky enough to be able to afford internet, is going to be the sex of choice at the moment. I mean really, Apple announces VR headsets at $3500 each, toys only for the rich. People are getting really fed up with this type of blatant, in-your-face wealth disparity.

The Governments

I used a plural on this because this is not an issue restricted to just the United States. Everywhere you look all levels of government are putting restrictions on what adults are allowed to see, watch and experience. No one has been hit harder than the LGBTQ community. Banning drag shows thinking they are harming children, cutting off internet access to certain websites which started with FOSTA/SESTA and has continued behind the scenes for the last five years. Websites where escorts and sex workers could look for clients have been abolished leaving them scrambling for safe ways to do business. And despite their insistence that it was all done to stave off human trafficking all it did was push it further underground making it harder for law enforcement to do their job. Whenever you hear, but think of the children, look for a law coming down the pike against some sexual preference or another.

Fundamentalist Christians

This is a last minute add that some of you might miss unfortunately. But after watching Shiny Happy People on Prime last night it’s clear that this is a huge threat. If you have a chance to watch it, DO IT! Yes it’s about the Duggar family and their weird lot but what is more important is the overall plan of the FC movement which it explains. If there was ever a movement that could destroy the world and send it backwards at high speed this is the one.

Like I said I’m sure you’ll think of a few other issues yourself and please feel free to leave your insights in the comments section (nicely). Now do I think that all of this will totally abolish the sex industry HELL NO! Try as you might you can’t regulate how people get off. And all the repression has just brought more of the taboo fetishes and such to the surface. By governments trying to regulate people’s lives they are in fact, making it all worse by creating more mental health issues. So now some of the sex workers both online and off are dealing with having to change their repertoire of services they offer to appease this type of clientele which in turn harms the sex workers own mental health but one has to put food on the table so nightmares be damned.

The sex industry is shit show right now. Women who are just jumping in thinking they can make $10,000 a month as they’ve been told they can, are realizing that it’s not only hard work but the clients just aren’t there. The money is trickling in and most can’t make a living now, even those who have been in the industry for decades.  So for those of you ladies and gents ‘out there’ who are wondering if they did something to kill their business, you didn’t, it’s just the times we’re living in. It will come back, but it’ll be a long time before it evens out into something we can all navigate.

As with everything we will just have to weather this storm of madness and control efforts to see where it all lands. But now is NOT the time to do a deep dive, quit your day job and do sex work.  The sex industry isn’t gone, it’s just changing like everything else, like it or not.
